Available Workshops

Do you have family coming to visit, or a group of friends that like to make things? Create your own workshop by picking from the workshops listed and contacting Frances, frances@myredtreestudio.com, about setting up a time to create for your group of three to ten people. Most workshops are 2-3 hours long.

Time frame and costs vary.

We will be creating using Alcohol Ink and Yupo paper. Creating with alcohol ink is a watercolor like process, but oh it is so much more. The magic of the inks is mesmerizing. No painting experience needed. We will be mounting your work onto cards that also fit nicely into a 5×7 frame.

Two hour class $25 per person (includes supplies)

You are in for a treat. Unlike watercolors, acrylics or oils, alcohol inks offer a whole new experience in painting! Alcohol Inks move and interact with each other in an almost magical way. The paper we use is a polypropylene paper called Yupo. It offers an ultra-smooth surface to manipulate the inks on. Non-painters and painters alike will find success and beauty with these unique materials.

In this class you will choose a focus of subject matter such as – florals, landscapes, koi.

Many discarded vintage book covers can be beautiful, humorous or meaningful. I love giving these old covers new life as “book safes”.

For the book safe workshop you will have a choice of kits that I will have prepared. You will assemble the box and select decorative papers to finish the interior. Your book safe can be placed on a shelf with treasures inside, or put out for display. The book safe also makes a unique gift.

Three hour class $37 per person (includes supplies)

You will be making a one of a kind master for quick and easy card production using watercolor, stamping and collage. Copies of a completed master can be used for cards, bookmarks, gift tags and more.

There will also be time to make your own unique cards for just about any occasion. The stamping supplies will be out for use as well as pens, markers, inks, interesting papers and ephemera.

Your opportunity to make cards for birthdays, holidays & more. You will have access to a wide variety of papers, rubber stamps and ephemera to make your own unique cards.

Coptic binding is a method of bookbinding first used by early Christians in Egypt. It is also the kind of binding that allows the book to open flat, which I love. In this class you will learn the techniques and process of making a one-of-a-kind handmade Coptic bound book. Some book-making or hand sewing experience can be helpful.

Four hour class $46 per person (includes supplies)

This gelatin printing or mono-printing workshop is all about play. It is an amazing and accessible printing technique that once the basics are understood, offers endless possibilities. The results are immediate and each print you pull is one of a kind.

During this workshop we will be printing with a variety of texture making tools such as stencils, found objects and household items, followed by creating prints using natural materials. You will produce several prints, some that will be frame ready and others can be used in collage, books, boxes and cards.

These stars are a favorite on Christmas trees. German Stars are folded paper decorations that can be used as holiday trim for your home, gift wrapping, attached to favors or place cards. My daughter was even able to make some small enough to be used as earrings.

Two hour class $18 per person (includes supplies)

This card is fun to make and even better to use or give. It folds flat to fit into an envelope and then opens up to accommodate a tea light for a stand alone table decoration.

A step-by-step workshop to construct and cover with a functional keepsake box to store your trinkets, postcards, or other special items. This is a great project that creates a practical and beautiful piece.

The beauty of this project is in the papers available to use. Gorgeous handmade papers from around the world.

Bring your fraction-math brain and your reading glasses (if you need them). You will need to be able to measure and cut accurately.

Three hour class $40 per person (includes supplies and kit)

This sweet little hard cover notepad includes a small pencil. These small handmade books will easily fit in your pack, purse or on your desk. They hold a standard 3” by 3” pad and are refillable.

Two hour class $22 per person (includes supplies)

Paper box making is a favorite workshop at the studio. Learning how to make these versatile boxes will not take you long and you will take home a skill that you can use over and over. These boxes are great for small gifts and homemade treats.

Two hour class $15 per person (includes supplies)

Carving your own rubber stamps is a great way to add your personal touch to envelopes, stationary, cards, gift wrap and more. You can create simple patterns, images and more.

We’ll go over the basics, including tools, cutting techniques, and creating your stamp designs. We’ll make several stamps in this class.

Two hour class, $23 per person, includes supplies

These versatile booklets use up-cycled materials such as calendar covers, greeting cards or food boxes, for their cover. The construction is a single signature pamphlet stitched book that has loads of flexibility as far as types of paper for the pages and materials for the cover.

This is a easy and useful way to up-cycle.  My favorites uses for these books are as travel journals and list keeping books. They also make nice thank you or hostess gifts.
